TheStory Behind Land of Milk and Honey: John the baptist’s birth was foretold as a forerunner to Christ, a messenger bound to the wilderness to prepare a way for the lord. We’ve all had these wilderness moments in life, cast out and seeking a purpose. As John was nourished on the locusts and honey of the wild he relied on God, knowing that his purpose was to serve the purpose of another. I think those of you who are parents can relate. I charge you to prepare the way for your children but also for your family, friends and community. Seek to clear a way for the purposes of God to move freely. Turn from sin, hold fast to what is good, and serve our God with all of your heart. As Christ began his ministry John knew his time had come, he had walked in the will of God. Humble, living in simplicity rather than excess John was the messenger to make clear the way for Jesus courageously. Let us also walk in the will of God for our individual lives and seek to be a messenger for His glory both privately and abroad. As notes of honey fill your room dwell on John’s perseverance through his wilderness times and as almond and vanilla enter in dwell on the courage and simplicity with which John fiercely filled his purpose by serving the purpose of another.
